Heavy Batters Stomping Through the Season

Fresh out of the gates recently, the Cougars played two top NAIA teams, leading to a record of 0 – 5. However, during the last sixteen games, they’ve only lost five, managing to improve their overall team record to 11 – 10. The team had wins over powerhouse teams like NAIA Mt. Vernon Nazarene and NCAA Division 3 Wilmington College, leaving the Cougars 5 – 2 against USCAA teams.

The UC Clermont Baseball team reached the midway point of the season recently, playing a double header against Clark State at the home field. The first game was a little rocky to start and the Cougars couldn’t seem to pull it together, falling to Clark State with a score of 5-6. During the second game they were able to pull it together and have their way, finishing with a score of 7-2.

This past weekend the boys traveled to Wright State University for a double header, taking the first game in a nail-biter 4-3. However, in the second game, the team struggled and couldn’t seem to get the plays rolling, finishing the game with a final score of 2-11. The following day they rode up to Miami Hamilton and proceeded to shut them out in both games. The first game moved slowly, but the Cougars prevented Miami from scoring, finishing the game at 1-0. The second game picked up tremendously, with the Cougars shutting out Miami for a final score of 9-1.

Jake Murray, Nick King, and Chase Louk are leading the Cougars offensively, all having batting averages over .360. King has hit two home runs this season, and assuming he continues to improve and hustle, we anticipate more to come throughout the rest of the season. Murray has two home runs as well as five triples, leading the entire USCAA. The Clermont Cougars as a whole are currently ranked second in USCAA triples, extra base hits, as well as batting average.

Finishing up the weekend with a season record of 15-13, the outcome is looking good for the Cougars.  So, come support your team!
