Are you looking for a workplace that is well suited for college students, is a friendly and social environment, and offers excellent benefits? According to Manager Clarice Wyatt, these are just a few of the things you’ll find at Otterbein Neighborhoods, an organization that recently visited Clermont as part of our NEXTSTEP Career Fair.
Otterbein is an organization that provides many services for the elderly, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and post-acute care. They provide these options so seniors can get the care they need according to their personal preferences.
Wyatt says that the organization is always seeking employees who are interested in healthcare, have some experience, and can demonstrate their caring ability. Otterbein even offers an STNA in Training Program, which is a great way to start your career at Otterbein. STNAs can start the program as early as seventeen, but need a high school diploma or GED to do so. Clarice Wyatt says that good communication skills are key for the positions at Otterbein, and employees should be able to work independently.
According to Wyatt, working in Otterbein’s family environment is great for those who want more of a connection with their clients. Employees help by cooking for the residents on Otterbein’s campus, cleaning, and doing whatever is necessary for residents throughout the day. Employees have commented on how much fun these roles can be, and many immensely enjoy the relationships they form with seniors at Otterbein.
Full-time and part-time positions are currently available in all shifts, so there’s a job to accommodate almost any schedule at Otterbein. In fact, work schedule flexibility is one of their primary appeals. It’s a great place for students to work, and a great place for UC Clermont students in particular due to its proximity; most of Otterbein’s traditional community and neighborhood communities are located near the Clermont area.
Another aspect that might appeal to potential Otterbein employees is the low resident to employee ratio, which allows for better individual care. “We usually don’t give STNAs more than five residents to care for,” Clarice Wyatt recently stated.
Benefits of working at Otterbein include a Verizon discount and free meals during shifts or stipends. They also offer a YMCA discount to employees, and those with qualifying hours receive paid time off, insurance, tuition reimbursement, and a 401(k) plan. Additionally, employees at Otterbein often work there long-term. Manager Clarice Wyatt reported that most of their employees have been there at least a year, and many have been there much longer. “Employees engage with the seniors every day, so it’s just a great social environment,” Wyatt said.
