Veteran’s Day Celebration at UC Clermont

0

Last Friday, UC Clermont had the privilege to hold an event to honor local veterans. Chances are, if you were on campus, you noticed it.  Right in front of the campus, a Black Hawk helicopter landed and students were able to take pictures of it.  Set up outside were several tables providing information on different organizations pertaining to veterans. Among these included Clermont County Veteran’s Service Commission, Vets Helping Vets, VA Home Loans, Team RWB (Red, White and Blue) and Pet Partners.

Clermont County Veteran’s Service Commission is an organization dedicated to providing financial aid for veterans in need. Vets Helping Vets provides counseling for veterans, especially in the areas of coping with stress and building self esteem. VA Home Loans helps veterans and their families fulfill their dreams of becoming home owners. And, Team RWB provides social and physical activities for veterans, working to help veterans stay in shape and form meaningful relationships. Finally, Pet Partners is an organization that allows people to interact with therapy animals; many different animal species are available, and working with these animals can significantly reduce the effects of PTSD in veterans.

The UC Clermont event lasted from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm, and during that time students and faculty alike had the opportunity to speak to different veterans and learn more about veteran affairs.

Though Veteran’s Day has come and gone, we should still remember to show our support for all of the veterans who have risked their lives to protect our freedoms.
